After returning from Viterbo, Italy, in 1996, I did a series of drawings and paintings originating from my experiences at the Villa Lante di Bagnaia which is a former controlled hunting ground for the bishops of Viterbo. Spectacular sculptures, fountains and formal gardens built in the sixteenth century. The formal gardens are at the entrance and two parallel paths ascend a hill which is crowned by two chapels called the House of the Muse. It is a magical place. No one can go there without being moved by something that I experienced as a powerful force of nature exuding beauty regardless of what humanity chooses to do with the landscape.
